Schaefer’s Miniature American Shepherds Featured
About the breeder
I have Trained, Shown, and Trialed the dogs I have owned in AKC, Canada, UKC, ASCA(Australian Shepherds), and USRC(Rottweilers), successfully since 2001. I currently only own AKC Miniature American Shepherds, although I have only owned this breed for a few years, I have owned Australian Shepherds since 2002 so I have a lot experience with where this breed has come from and want to assist in where this beautiful, smart breed is going.
Before my dogs are considered for breeding, they have genetic health testing done, hips and elbows passed by OFA and they have had their eyes checked. However you will see several more health tests completed before the breeding ever takes place. I only breed dogs that I feel are a good representative of the breed, which includes temperament/health/breed standard, regardless of how many titles I have put on them or health tests they have passed.
All puppies are raised following the Puppy Culture Program. They whelped and raised in the house under foot (not in a kennel), so they have plenty of socialization, are started on housebreaking through use of a dog door and crate training before leaving for their new home at 8 weeks. I am an AKC Breeder of Merit and an AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T Breeder. I am also a member in good standing with Miniature American Shepherd Club Of The USA, the parent club of the Miniature American Shepherd for the American Kennel Club.
For my time and effort to bring you the best pet puppy and loving, healthy family member I charge $2000. Yes, you can find ones for cheaper and I understand if you are on a budget, so am I. Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples and getting everything you should expect out of a very well-bred Miniature American Shepherd from an AKC Breeder of Merit that is also member of the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. breeders program that gives a written 3 year health guarantee.
Estimated Wait Time
I do not keep a wait list, I announce on Facebook, my website and AKC Marketplace when I have a litter.
Enrichment & Socialization
I spend 8 weeks with the puppies molding them into confident, outgoing puppies. They are exposed to a variety of noises, surfaces, crates, car rides, I do litter box training to make house breaking easier, socializing in stores while in the carts for their safety. They are raised from birth in the house, never stuck outside in a barn or kennel. They are raised with love and interaction. I utilize the following enrichment methods: Potty Training, Leash Walking, Crate Training, Biosensor Training, Socialized with Children, Socialized with Adult Dogs, Sound Stimulation, Household Desensitization, Grooming Desensitization, Early Neurological Stimulation, Touch Desensitization, Toys, e.g. Ball, Scents, Structures, e.g. Climbing.
Health of Puppies
All puppies have been de-wormed, had age approximate vaccines, have been vet checked.
We offer a 3 year health guarantee. Dog is not suffering from any genetic disease or defect which would prevent it from living an otherwise healthy or normal life. Dog will receive a hip dysplasia rating from OFA of at least "Fair".
